This cozy café creates an unpretentious yet warm dining atmosphere, perfect for a hearty breakfast, a satisfying lunch, or a casual catch-up over excellent coffee.

The menu at Sunshine Café is a vibrant tapestry of comforting favorites and unique dishes that aim to delight every palate. Start your day with their acclaimed Breakfast Burrito, packed with flavorful ingredients that awaken the senses. For sandwich enthusiasts, the Koby Beef Sandwich stands out as a crowd-pleaser—rich, juicy, and bursting with savory goodness—earning praise from locals who compare it to the finest steak sandwiches anywhere. If you’re craving a taste of nostalgia, the Double Cheeseburger is a nostalgic tribute to classic American fare, boasting a juicy patty, melted cheese, and fresh toppings that transport you straight back to simpler times.

Beyond these staples, Sunshine Café offers an eclectic mix, from the aromatic Bibimbap & Miso Soup to the satisfyingly savory Philly Cheese Steak, which has been lauded for its authentic flavor and generous portions. Those who enjoy lighter fare will appreciate the crisp Fresh Salads featuring romaine lettuce and the freshest vegetables from the salad bar, or the delightful Beef Potsticker Dish, served with homemade dipping sauce and a side salad—a perfect balance of textures and tastes.

One of the café’s standout weekly features is the Monday-Only Taco Salad Special. This dish dazzles with seasoned beef, creamy avocado, pinto beans, fresh veggies, and cheese, all nestled in a crispy shell alongside their famous homemade salsa. It’s a feast of flavors in every bite.

This spot also serves as a comforting haven for those waiting near the hospital across the street, offering a pleasant refuge with good food and a relaxed setting.

Parking can be a challenge due to its location near UC Davis Medical Center, so plan accordingly. While the intimate kitchen sometimes means a little wait during peak hours, the genuine care put into every dish more than compensates for the brief pause. The passion behind the cooking is palpable, from the carefully seasoned Japchae Noodle Dish with its luscious Korean glass noodles to the simple yet satisfying Grilled Cheese Sandwich, perfectly crisped and melty.

Sunshine Café is more than just a place to eat—it’s a heartfelt experience where each meal tells a story of quality ingredients, culinary pride, and community spirit. This place is great it is a small place but it is understandable. The food looked gerat I had the double cheeseburger and it took me back to my childhood when burgers tasted like burgers. The staff were friendly, inviting, and patient.

Where are people supposed to park? UC Davis? I've tried to eat here three times. No luck! Edit on November 4, 2025: I finally got to try this place. My sister and I drove around the blocks a few times before we found a place to park. There were two people working. Presumably a couple. When the man stepped out for a bit, she was the only one to take orders and cook. So it took some time. The food was great, but not really hot. We both enjoyed our orders, but neither were hot. Just warm. So I can only assume our Chinese food was pre-made. I had a glass noodle with beef plate that came with four pot stickers. They were crispy and super tasty. So was the dipping sauce. My sister ordered the orange chicken plate. It had tender, breaded chicken that was neatly sliced, with a sweet orange glaze poured on top. Each of our meals came with a side of white rice. I commented to my sister that I appreciated the recognizable chicken. Unlike the usual, glazed, odd meat chunks in orange "chicken". It is a good hole-in-the-wall eatery, I just wish our food arrived hot. We spent about $15 a piece. No drinks. Just a cup of water.

Adorable, delicious, overall great vibes. Very filling food and a great coffee selection. If you ever have to wait for anyone from the hospital (hopefully not) but this is a great place to wait it out. Very friendly staff.

I was walking by at 10 am on a summer in July all of a sudden I inhaled a wonderful aroma turned my head. It happened to be a nurse patron and I told him that smelled like heaven. He replied “taste like it too!” I was treated generosity and kindness! Food was everything to be expected all these years I wish I’d given them my business will be back!

Tried this place while visiting the UCD campus. Great food, my only complaint was a little to much mayo for my liking but the serving size and quality was great. Overall the experience was great. The nice lady at the front makes the business feel warm and welcoming. Please support local businesses like this.
